Black and White Wednesday #3
There was another superb showing for last weeks Black and White Wednesday and if you haven't managed to take a look, I certainly encourage you to do so. For this week, my monochromatic attention has been directed to another food love of my life, cheese and in particular Caciocavallo.
Caciocavallo shares some similarities to the more well known Provolone but it's a cheese that was at one stage threatened with extinction - it's now been recognised with a DOP. It was originally made just in Puglia but you can find variations of it in other Southern Italian states.
This is an aged cheese and I think that shot in b&w that sense of ageing really comes through - that this has sat for some time in the cool and dark and slowly matured.
Remember, if you'd like to join in head over to Susan's site and acquaint yourself with the rules.

Black and White Wednesday #2
There was a brilliant turn out last week for the first Black and White Wednesday, created and curated by Susan from The Well-Seasoned Cook, that it would seem a shame not to find something for this week.
For me, the professional kitchen is an environment made for black and white photography. The combination of metal and crisp white uniform comes alive when you remove the distraction of colour - you can then just focus on the details.
Here the chef is preparing a sabayon - a laborious process of furious whisking. It's all about technique, keeping your elbow in the right position.
This was taken with a favourite lens - Nikkor 80mm, a digital conversion using the b&w adjustment layer in Photoshop with custom settings.

Black and White Wednesday #1
As soon as I read Susan's post announcing the start of Black and White Wednesday I knew that I would have to join in. Black and White photography is my first love and shooting with black and white film fills me with joy that no digital camera has ever come close to matching.
The idea of the event is that you post (on a wednesday) a b&w food related image - it can be digital or film and for this photo I've gone old school - agfa apx 400 with a Nikon F2
taken in the heat of service - there's a flurry of action, from the fish station at the front, to the focused attention at the pass as plates are ready to be served.
