"Fire and Smoke"
As I mentioned previously, every weekend in October brings a new celebration and for this weekend, Alba turns back the clock and the streets are taken over by a medieval fair.
It began on the Friday - we knew something big was happening when we spied this rolling through town
and by the next morning, the scenes on the street couldn't but bring a smile to your face.
Each borgo is assigned its own area in the city in which it sets up food stalls and games and their members are all dressed up for the occasion
One borgo even had its own mini duomo!
On the food front we were spoiled for choice
these wood fired ovens were pumping out massive discs of farinata
arms were tested as they tended vast vats of polenta
while another borgo was kept busy suppling porchetta for the hungry crowds.
It was two days of absolute fun.
When we woke on Monday and wandered down to the piazza, you'd be hard pressed to believe anything was there - well except for the presence of a single wood burning oven.
Great photo story, Haalo. I hope this type of traditions continue to thrive in Italy for centuries to come.
ReplyDeleteThanks Simona - I hope they continue too!
